Stardew Valley creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone finally brought update 1.6 to consoles and mobile devices today, but there’s one small problem: everyone’s chickens are missing.
The developer warned players about the disappearances of poultry in a message on X/Twitter. He says those who start a new feedlot farm and open their pet door on day one will find their chickens disappearing. It’s a public announcement letting players know that there is a minor issue with update 1.6 and a fix is on the way. Until a follow-up patch arrives, ConcernedApe says players can blame their missing chickens on a sneaky coyote that doesn’t appear until day one.
PSA: There is currently a problem: if you start a new farm on the pasture farm and open the pet door on day 1 of the coop, your chickens will disappear. If you leave the door closed for a day they should be fine. We will solve this. Lore: There’s a wild coyote on the farm…

It’s unclear when Stardew Valley will resolve the missing chicken issue. In the meantime, Update 1.6 brings a host of other changes and additions for those still delving into the hugely popular, fun farming simulation. After his arriving on PC last Marchthe update today hit the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One (you can check out the full patch notes here), which adds the ability to find lost items, use cheat commands on certain platforms, and more. ConcernedApe recommends that players start a new farm to see everything that update 1.6 has to offer. That’s why it’s so important to make sure the word gets out about that pesky coyote.
We gave Stardew Valley a 10/10 in our updated version 2024 reviewcalled it a “modern classic with an endless list of tempting activities to complete and a deeply satisfying time management challenge to take on.” To learn more about ConcernedApe’s agricultural masterpiece, read how its creator did it managed the game’s most difficult feat last week.
