by Stardew Valley creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has shared some new knowledge to explain a chicken removal bug while a fix is implemented.
Stardew Valley update 1.6.9 launched today for PC, consoles and mobile, and Barone took to Twitter with a rather alarming warning for those who have updated to the latest version: “PSA: There is currently an issue, if you create a new farm on the pasture farm and open the animal door on day 1 of the coop, your chickens will disappear.”
This seems like a pretty niche issue that hopefully won’t affect too many players before it’s resolved, and Barone clarified that “if you leave the door closed for a day, it should save your chickens.” But in the meantime, he created the bug cannon by simply inventing a wild coyote hungry for chickens.
‘We will solve this. Lore: There’s a wild coyote on the first day of the ranch,” he said, making me chuckle audibly. Oh, those crafty coyotes.

As terribly funny as this all is, if you’ve played much of Stardew Valley you’ll know that chickens aren’t exactly cheap at 800G each, so if you’re starting a new farm in the Meadowlands, make sure you get them does not open. the pet door of your cage until an in-game day has passed. Even if money is no object, death by coyote is no way to treat your feathered friends.
Elsewhere, Stardew Valley 1.6.9 adds The Sims-style cheat codes and a “new friend” who can restore some of the game’s rarest items “for a price”.
